Eating out in Golden Bay
Some places we have enjoyed:
At Pohara
San Souci with its fixed daily menu. You need to book by 4pm and arrive at 7pm.
We have had delicious meals at this restaurant. It usually closes for the winter
months.
Totally Roasted for Brunch - they roast their own coffee beans
The Penguin especially when there is a good footy match as they have a large
screen
On the way to Collingwood and beyond you will find:
The Naked Possum - this is a wee jaunt in the countryside - go to Bainham
beyond Collingwood and follow the instructions to the cafe. It is a slow cook cafe, and they
have a shop with tanning products. They also sell rata trees. Even in the winter, they have
wonderful food and a blazing fire outdoors. While you are there (during daylight hours, take a
walk up the Kaituna track to the fork of the rivers and in the summer (December, January) check
out the rata trees in flower.
The Mussel Inn
The Old School Cafe in Pakawau
The Courthouse Cafe in Collingwood township
In Takaka you will find:
- TLC - for a good coffee (next to Harcourts real estate)
- The Brigand - (reasonably priced food in a nice enviornment)
- The Wholemeal Company
- Dangerous Kitchen - just next door to one of the real estate businesses
- Eatery on the Rocks - (is just nearby on the way in or out of Takaka - on the way to the Takaka
Hill)
And there are a few more besides!
Then if you have done all that, you might just have to sit on the beach and ponder the beauty all around you.
